Aims and Principles

 

Total Reform of the British Constitution Including:

A reduction of the constitutional powers of the Monarchy, Reform of the House of Lords into a fully elected Senate, the Reform of House of Commons procedures, full Electoral Reform with the adoption of 'AV-Plus' the System which the Jenkins Report suggests. Support for Scottish and Welsh Devolution, A Bill of Rights and A Written Constitution.

 

An End to all Forms of Animal Cruelty Including:

A move away from cruel intensive methods of Farming to more small scale free rang farms, an end to live Animal Exports and the phasing out of Fur farming along with prohibiting the sale of fur garments. An end to all forms of Vivisection, a ban on Blood sports, prohibit the humiliating and often-cruel way animals are used in Circuses. Also we shall seek to promote the Vegetarian and Vegan diet as a healthy alternative to meat.

 

Stronger laws against discrimination and more rights to the minority     including:

Total rejection of all anti gay laws such as section 28 and the instant introduction of an equal age of consent. The adaptation of the Race Relations Act to include Sexual Orientation, gender and disability. Legislation to combat gay hate crimes and the introduction of Civil marriage for single sex relationships. The PLP finds racism totally unacceptable and wish to take action to ensure its removal from our society.

 

Support for Europe not the EU:

Our policy on Europe is one, which keeps us involved with our European partners but not controlled by them. We advocate withdrawal from the EU. We would still sustain our human rights and economic attachments without having to have European directives and Laws forced upon us unless we decide to apply them in the UK. We would revoke the Amsterdam and Maastricht Treaties along with the Single European Act.

 

Britain a Peace Making Force in the World:

The rearmament of the military to 1990 levels and a Ban on the Export Nuclear technology, we seek to maintain our Nuclear deterrent. The promotion of world peace and a policy of only embarking on Military action when all other democratic options have been exhausted. 

 

Legalization of Cannabis along with a Royal Commission into the use of all other illegal drugs:

The Legalization of Cannabis with it's Regulation in a comparable manner to alcohol, along with a Royal Commission into the use of all other illegal drugs. We seek to Educate people about the dangers and effects of drugs with an emphasis on children, to ensure that all are able to make an informed choice. In no way do we wish to promote the use of drugs.

 

Youth rights:

This would include the removal of Tuition Fees, reinstatement of benefits to the under 18's, an equal minimum wage for all and the lowering of the age to vote and stand as a candidate for election to 16.
